Canadian Thanksgiving was originally observed in Newfoundland and other parts of the country by new European settlers. Over the years it moved between various dates, sometimes being observed in November and sometimes in October.
It was not until the 1950's that the current date, the second Monday of October, was proclaimed as being the official date for Canadian Thanksgiving. The reason for the earlier date to convey thanks for our harvest is our earlier harvest occurring farther to the north.
Thanksgiving for families is simply about spending time decorating the house, preparing all of the Thanksgiving food (and of course the dinner!) as well as enjoying a long weekend before the onset of Winter.

My Point of Views, by Yves Maurer’s Sicht auf Tägliches

カナダに来た最初の年にフランス語フルタイムのコースを取った。(翌年もあわせれば合計3タームも。かなり身についたはずなのに、ああ・・・どんどん忘れていくことよ~。)そのときのクラスメイトがB&B(ベッド&ブレックファースト、朝食つき宿泊)を今経営しているらしい
ダウンタウンのお勧めB&B

Sehr freundliche und hilfsbereite Hotelbesitzer. Angenehme, familiere Atmosphäre. Man fühlt sich wirklich sehr willkommen. Zentrale Lage.

The location is perfect, it's very comfortable (we were a bit worried about the shared bathrooms but it was no problem), the decoration is very original and on top of that, the owners (Koko & Raymond) are great hosts and very helpful for everything. We strongly recommand this charming B&B for everyone who wants to feel at home in Montreal. Thanks a lot for everything Koko & Ray!
